Deciding what you want after turning 40 can be overwhelming. But since turning 40, I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about what I want my life to look like – now, 5 years from now, and even 20 to 50 years from now.
I know I want to be active, healthy, and have a fabulous community of close friends and family in my life. I also know I want to be traveling more, and I’m playing around with the idea of living in Spain for a period of time. I see myself helping more and more women as they navigate midlife changes and reinvent themselves over and over again. And somewhere in my work with these phenomenal women, I see us traveling and exploring the world. I also want to have more time with my husband and I want to be able to visit our daughter whenever we want to. I envision more adventure and fun but also greater depth in my relationship with myself, my husband, and everyone in my life. I could go on and on but I’ll stop there for now.
And now I’m curious about you. Twenty years from now when you look back on this season of your life, what will you be most proud of yourself for doing?
What’s the thing or what are the things that you’ll look back on and celebrate yourself for. What are the risks you took? What are the things you did even though they seemed impossible? What are the things you choose to go after even though nobody else seemed to be doing the same things? What dream did you chase?
Those things, the things you want to look back on and be so proud of yourself for doing are a compass for you. They’re guiding you and showing you the way forward. They’re telling you who you really want to be, what you want to be feeling, and what you want to be doing in your life.
Who you become in the future begins today.
Resource (blog post): 40 Life Changes You Should Make After 40
The life you’re envisioning, the relationships you’re craving, the way you want to be caring for yourself starts right now.
Most women put off their dreams.
They put off caring for themselves.
They put off prioritizing their needs.
And they wait to do what they want to do until someone gives them permission to do so.
If this sounds familiar, I get. I’ve experienced this myself. And I understand why I did it and why you might be too.
You’re the person who encourages everyone.
You’re the person who has helped so many others give themselves permission to go all in on their lives.
You’re the person who lifts everyone else up and helps them achieve their dreams.
You’re the person behind the scenes who has helped so many others play the role of the main character in their lives.
But now things have changed. They don’t need you like they used to need you. And you’re looking around and wondering who you are and what your role is now.
This is an amazing place to be. Really it is.
Because now it’s your turn.
It’s time to rediscover who you are.
It’s time to get clear about what you really want.
It’s time to give yourself permission to go all in on your dreams.
It’s time to become the main character in your life.
Imagine looking back on this moment and feeling so proud of yourself for finally saying yes to you.
