An important lesson I’ve learned about building my coaching business is the importance of investing in myself.
I recently hired a new coach and it reminded me again of all the emotions that come up for me when I choose to invest in myself.
Initially there’s the excitement of finding someone whose energy, values, and work align with what I want.
Then there’s the excitement about all that’s possible from being able to learn from her and grow because of that experience.
And there’s the excitement about the greater impact I’ll be able to make in my clients’ businesses and lives.
But then the excitement gets mixed up with a bit of doubt.
Finally there’s the certainty that I’m ready for this and committed to show up, do the work (both internal and external), and get the results I came for. No. Matter. What.

Every time I invest in myself I’m reminded of you. I’m reminded that investing in yourself likely brings up all the emotions for you too. If that’s true for you, I want you to know that I see you.
And, while there may be coaches out there who don’t have those nervous jitters and self-doubt creep in (even if temporarily), I still do. And I don’t think there’s anything wrong with me when it does.
The willingness to invest in ourselves is such an amazing gift. But remember that when you’re contemplating investing in yourself, you’re still a human with a human brain who’s making a bold decision.
Allow your emotions to be along for the ride. Listen to them. Lean into them. And ultimately trust yourself.
